To Ying

Ying is the one-year-old daughter of my senior schoolmate. That day, my schoolmate said she was going to America; as it happened, I had recently been reading books on physics, so I wrote this physics poem.

In time's long alley I glimpse the hem of your dress
On the riverbank of years you glimpse my straw raincoat
I think of your blossoming stamens
You still remember my shy young bud

I call out from this side
You gaze from the other
Ah, the vast ocean of space-time
The sea wind scatters your long black hair

Along the beach, you walk toward me
Sunlight falls on your right cheek, a few glistening drops of water
You pick up a shell mottled with every color
And toss it into the surge of a black hole

From then on, I am in your daylight
And you are in my night
I see your smiling face in the moon
And you see my longing among the stars
